Most kids require the XL seatpost around the age of 4 but some tall 3 year olds require it earlier. You can bring your child in to test ride or you can measure their in seam from floor to crotch with shoes on to help determine which seat they will need. An easy way to measure is to place them, with shoes on, back to a wall with their legs together as if you are measuring their height. Slide a book skinny ways through their legs up against their crotch like a bike seat and mark the wall. Then measure the height on from floor to the mark on the wall. When they have an in-seam of 17" or more they require the XL seatpost.
